Lessons

In the classroom, lessons are divided into groups. Those groups - Language, Math, Science, Geography, Sensory and Practical - have individual lessons or activities suited for children of all ages. It is the child's responsibility to choose a task, sit down, finish the lesson, show the instructor, and place the lesson back on its shelf. Each day will be devoted to one group (a Language day for instance) but each child is welcome to dedicate their time to any lesson they wish. All the lessons and activities are changed at the end of the each month.

We also incorporate Waldorf wooden toys, wet paintings, books and more.

Our extra activities include such activities as: music time, yoga, meditation, Spanish lessons, baking, gardening, knitting, and pet interactions.

Discipline

Every child is different, and discipline can be challenging to parents and child care providers alike. That's why here at Peaceful Pines we use Non-Violent Communication methodology (aka Peaceful Parenting). This form of discipline encourages open communication and using a language of love and understanding so that both adult and child can figure out the root of the child's problem. Instead of time outs or conventional methods, we use words to resolve our problems. For instance we may ask our peers, "Can you check in?" if a friend is upset or hurt or "Let's compromise" if there is a dispute between friends or family.
